Cactlandia

Cactlandia invites visitors to experience the Southwestern desert through the imaginative perspective of a pollinator or small creature. Inspired by the forms and textures of the Texas barrel cactus and towering columnar species, this playful landscape transforms desert flora into oversized, climbable structures that spark wonder, curiosity, and joy. Children and adults alike are encouraged to crawl inside accordion-like ribs, reach for vibrant “blooms,” and hop across a field of cactus-turned steppingstones, discovering opportunities to climb, sit, hide, and reflect.

Grounded in sustainable materials and inclusive design, the installation offers a sensory-rich experience that engages a wide range of ages and abilities. Tactile surfaces, playful geometry, and gentle auditory elements, such as wind chimes, invite visitors to slow down and connect with the natural world. Cactlandia celebrates the resilient beauty of desert plants while creating a joyful and immersive space for exploration.
